FRA - Batum confirms presence in Bleus' World Cup squad

PARIS (FIBA Basketball World Cup) - High-flying Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum has made it clear he will play for France at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.

Batum attended an adidas-sponsored press conference on Thursday at Roland Garros in Paris, where the sportswear giants unveiled the jerseys the France national team players will wear at Spain 2014, and the player then made an announcement on his Facebook page.

The 25-year-old shows a picture of himself pointing to his No. 5 France national team jersey and says: "I'm pleased to announce my participation in this summer's FIBA Basketball World Cup (you can see exclusively the jersey we'll be wearing! Nicolas).

France will arrive in Spain as the EuroBasket 2013 champions.

They will play take on the host nation, Serbia, Brazil, Iran and Egypt in Granada's Group A.

Batum is coming off a strong season in the NBA with the Trail Blazers, who made it to the Western Conference Semi-Finals before falling to the San Antonio Spurs, 4-1.

Batum averaged 11.6 points and 5.1 rebounds for France at last year's EuroBasket in Slovenia.

In the 80-66 title triumph over Lithuania, the 2.03m star poured in 17 points, pulled down six boards, came up with two steals and swatted a shot.

Batum is a veteran of the senior team.

He made his first appearance at EuroBasket 2009 in Poland.

The Lisieux-born ace has also competed with France at the 2010 FIBA World Championship, EuroBasket 2011 and the 2012 Olympics.
