Call it a comeback and color Amjyot Singh excited

NEW DEHLI (India) - Amjyot Singh kept his statement short and simple.

"I'm very excited for the comeback."

The statement could be referring to his own status with the team.  After not being on India's national team roster for the first window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, Amjyot finally saw his name listed on the 12-player squad for Window 2.

"Whatsoever [my first basket in a game] would be, I just care that I can have the last bucket and win the match."

After starring for India at FIBA Asia Cup 2017, he didn't get to see much action with the national team… up until now. It's no surprise that Amjyot would be excited for this upcoming opportunity.

The statement could also be referring to basketball for the national team as well. It's been a while since the players have had to chance to show off their skills on a competitive platform, which is what they will be able to do here at the second window of the Qualifiers.

Despite the exceptional situation, Amjyot feels that he and the team are ready.

"The team and I are very confident," Amjyot said. "We've been preparing for these games through the past year."

When the time comes to get on the court, however, Amjyot couldn't care less about how they start. His focus will be on how the team finishes.

"Whatsoever [my first basket in a game] would be, I just care that I can have the last bucket and win the match."

India have a reason to be full of confidence heading into their next games. Even though they dropped their opening game of the Qualifiers to Bahrain, they rallied back to claim an impressive win on the road against Iraq.

That positive energy has radiating in the locker room of the training camp and is expected to lift India's spirits up in their next two games. They will be facing Lebanon first on November 27 before a rematch against Bahrain on November 29. Both games will be played at the Khalifa Sport City in Manama.

"It's been a great atmosphere and we have been motivating each other to achieve our goals."

The goal - or at least the short-term goal - is to win these two upcoming games. Those victories will help India inch closer to the bigger prize: a direct ticket to FIBA Asia Cup 2021.

India have the fourth most FIBA Asia Cup appearances (25) of all-time. They are also one more Asia Cup away from racking up 10 straight appearances at the big dance, so fans can expect India to do whatever it takes to get there.

Amjyot himself has been to the FIBA Asia Cup four times already in his career with solid averages of 13.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest in 24 games played. He would certainly like the opportunity to add on to those numbers.

"[Qualifying for Asia Cup 2021] would be a great achievement for India, "One step closer to the goal."

With this target set in the crosshairs for India, Amjyot can guarantee at least one thing that India's loyal supporters will be able to see from the team in the upcoming games.

"Fans should expect our best and 100 percent efforts."
