Top 5 Performers of Day 1 of #AfroCan 2019

BAMAKO (Mali) - The opening day of the inaugural edition of the FIBA AfroCan saw big names in African basketball coasting to victory in their respective group with Morocco leading the way with fans having real fun at the Palais des Sports Salamatou Maiga in Bamako, Mali.

The Moroccan upstage hard fighting Chad 80-75 in Group C, Democratic Republic of Congo follow suit with a 82-62 points dropping of Kenya in Group B, Egypt humbled Guinea in a Group D tie by 84-57 points and Algeria went past Cote d'Ivoire85-75 in Group A.

Here are the Top 5 players who distinguished themselves in the opening day of the championship in no particular order.

Rolly Fula Nganga (COD) 

The 26-year-old shun like a Million star in his team's 82-62 win over Kenya. The 2.01m (6ft7in) forward was very effective on both end of the court as he came up with game-high 23 points, 3 rebound and 2 assist with efficiency rating of 23.

Abdelhakim Zouita (MAR)

The Moroccan ace was great for his country where combined well with two of his teammates including Soufiane Koudou and ageless Zakari El Masbahi, and the trio poured in 46 of Morocco's 80 points.

Zouita proved a worthy player with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks and an efficiency of 14.

Ahmed Metwaly (EGY) 

The 22-year-old was clearly unstoppable against Guinea.The 1.77m (5ft10in) point guard recorded 16 points, 3 assist and was rated 16 in efficiency. His performance enable Egypt to make a step closer to an automatic Quarter-Final ticket in Group D.

Tylor Ongwe (KEN)

Though he was on the losing side, the 28-year-old was a delight to watch. The 2.01m (6ft7in) small forward poured in a massive 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals and efficiency of 22.

Merouane Bourkaib (ALG)

The 27-year-old distinguished himself in his country's hard fought 85-75 win over Cote d'Ivoire as he netted 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3assists and efficiency of 15.

Four games are on the bill in Day 2 of the preliminary round.
