Overview

The FIBA U18 African Championship is a competition that brings together 12 national teams.

It’s organised by the International Basketball Federation's Africa Regional Office.

The first edition of this Championship took place in 1977 in Cairo, Egypt. Egypt won the very first U18 continental title.

To date, Nigeria is the most successful country with 6 crowns won in 21 editions. Egypt and Angola follow with four titles each.

The Championship is played every two years and brings together some of the top basketball prospects from the continent of Africa.

The defending champions are Mali, which won their second consecutive FIBA U18 African Championship in 2020 in Cairo.

Senegal finished second after an 82-80 defeat to Mali in the final.

This year, the competition will take place in Madagascar, from August 4 to 14.

The winner and runners-up of the 2022, U18 African Championship earn the right to represent Africa in Debrecen, Hungary from June 24 to July 2, 2023 for the 16th edition of the U19 World Cup.
