Unbeaten Rwanda qualify for the 2022 FIBA U18 Africa Championship

KAMPALA (Uganda) - FIBA Africa Zone 5 Qualifiers for U18 came to a close at Kampala MTN Arena, Lugogo with Rwanda coming out triumphant.

Rwanda thus punched a ticket for a places in the Final Round of the FIBA U18 Africa Championship which holds in Madagascar in July.  

Rwanda were simply unstoppable as they stayed unbeaten against Uganda and Tanzania in the double-elimination series of the qualifiers to finish on 8 points.

Tanzania and Uganda finished on 6 and 5 points respectively.

 

Though, Tanzania put up a fight in the last game against Rwanda that ended 19-4, 18-6, 29- 15 and 18-14 for a total score of 84-49 in favour of winners Rwanda, Abdul Maulidi of Tanzania led his side with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Rwanda Captain Dick Rutatika Sano had fun as he led the floor with 19 points, 8 rbs, 4 ast.

Dick Rutatikasano was awarded the MVP trophy while Okurut Marvin of Uganda was Top Scorer Nkya Minja of Tanzania was named Best Rebounder.

The qualification will make it a fifth appearance at the U18 continental showcase since 2010.

The 2022 FIBA U18 African Championship will take place in Antananarivo, Madagascar from August 4-15.
