Sagesse replaces Dynamo Lebanon in FIBA WASL West Asia

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - Sagesse will be replacing Dynamo Lebanon in the 2023–24 FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) season, the FIBA Regional Office-Asia confirmed.

The renowned Lebanese basketball club is the latest to join the competition, as the 2022–23 Lebanese Basketball Championship runners-up will no longer be taking part in the upcoming season.

Sagesse finished third in the 2022–23 Snips Lebanese Basketball Championship season behind Dynamo and long-time rivals Al Riyadi, the reigning WASL-West Asia League champions looking to go back-to-back.

Founded in 1992, Sagesse became one of the most successful basketball clubs in Lebanon, not just for their success domestically but in Asia as well.

The 8-time Lebanese league champions and 7-time Lebanese Cup winners are also the winningest team in FIBA Asia Champions Cup history with three titles. They also have three West Asia Champions Cup crowns in their rich collection.

Now, Sagesse will try to be as successful in FIBA WASL, where they are pooled in Group A of the West Asia League together with last season's West Asia runners-up Shahrdari Gorgan, defending Iraqi Premier League titlists Al Naft, and 2022–23 Syrian Basketball League runners-up Al-Ittihad Aleppo.

This development will not impact the confirmed schedules of the games in Group A, with the only change being Sagesse playing the games scheduled for Dynamo.

Sagesse will be put to the test right away as they host Gorgan, also the reigning 3-time Iranian Super League champions, in WASL West Asia League's opener on November 15.
