France finish fifth as classification places confirmed

CHEKHOV/VIDNOE (2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship) - France finished the 2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship with a flourish to deliver a 53-40 derby victory over Belgium and secure fifth place at the tournament.

Julien Egloff and his side extracted revenge for their opening day defeat by throwing a defensive blanket over their neighbours as Victoria Majekodunmi came alive for an eye-catching 17 points.

Belgium will nevertheless be proud of taking sixth place on their debut in the competition, having opened up their rookie campaign with four straight victories and helped by some terrific displays from captain Julie Allemand.

Canada head coach Rich Chambers didn't get the winning send-off he had been hoping for, as his team were beaten for seventh place by China.

The veteran has spent more than a decade overseeing youth teams for his country but endured a comprehensive 67-47 goodbye loss to finish eighth, as Jinbo Xing added 15 points and seven boards, while team-mate Meiqi Zhu amassed 12 points and 15 rebounds for China.

Unlike their last appearance at the event when they were beaten to ninth place on the last day, Netherlands head coach Remy de Wit celebrated making no mistake this time by striding to an 83-72 win against Brazil - thanks mainly to 23 points from center Emese Hof.

Serbia matched their finish of 11th at the last edition of the tournament in Lithuania as they wrapped up their campaign with a 58-46 win over Mali, who took 12th to build on finishing second from last in 2013.

Korea capped off their participation by beating Asian rivals Chinese Taipei, 78-67, with Juyeon Lee scoring 21 points to hand her team 13th spot which equalled their finish two years ago in Klaipeda.

Argentina finally got to celebrate a triumph as they beat Egypt50-43, in the game for 15th place with Victoria Llorente displaying her power in the paint with a pivotal double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds.

Egypt took last place as the only team in the competition who didn’t manage to claim a victory.
