LONDON (FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualifiers) - Great Britain's senior men discovered which teams stand between them and a place in next year's Final Round when the FIBA EuroBasket 2017 Qualfiers draw was made in Germany last Friday.

Great Britain were placed in Group G, alongside The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Hungary and Luxembourg.

Great Britain have reached three of the last four editions of the EuroBasket Final Round, Kieron Achara playing his part in 2009 and 2013, but he admits that missing out in 2015 still hurts, and will serve as motivation for the upcoming campaign.

"Watching EuroBasket last year, it was hard," Achara said.

"I've got a lot of friends throughout the world who were competing and you could just see the passion and the desire and that's something you want to be a part of.

"We have to make sure we are there because it's something you want to be a part of. It's something you can be proud of and to play for your country at that level, you couldn't ask for more."

The Scottish frontcourt player has met all three of Great Britain's Group G opponents during his career, including a particularly memorable 2010 overtime success against The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, which set the Brits on their way to EuroBasket 2011.

"We played Luxembourg last summer with the Scottish team in a couple of friendlies. I've got experience of playing against those guys," Achara recalled.

"Hungary, I've got a couple of great friends there who were team-mates of mine in Spain. I know they have got a lot of talent and they will be hungry to get to EuroBasket themselves.

"[The Former Yugoslav Republic of] Macedonia will be very hard to play against. We've struggled when we've played in Skopje in the past. But we had a great game against them in Newcastle when we won in overtime, which solidified us in top spot in the group to qualify for EuroBasket.

"We know it's going to be a tough task, it always is at EuroBasket, no matter who you are playing against." Achara and many of his team-mates also know what to expect when they meet up this summer, with the return of head coach Joe Prunty.

The 32-year-old is delighted to see the Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach back on board for a fourth year and feels his enthusiasm for the role will create a positive atmosphere.

"The thing is, he doesn't have to be here, he wants to be here," Achara added.

"Every year you want to be here with people who want to be part of something special, they are the people we need to have on board.

"I'm sure he'll be excited to get in this year, we have that bit of consistency where we know what some of the offences will be and now it's for us to go out there and execute.

"He's a great coach to play for. He's a great people person and all those little things help. The fact he has made this commitment to our team, to bettering our team and getting us to the next level, it makes you want to play hard for him.

"There's no bigger honour than playing for your country and he's really bought into the Great Britain culture."

Achara's club campaign has been hampered by injuries, but his hard work is beginning to pay off.

He has helped BBL side Glasgow Rocks to seven wins from their last nine games, and is getting back to his best - a good sign for the summer.

"It's been one injury after another but I am back on the mend. My focus is to get healthy, play the best basketball I can be playing and make sure I am ready for the summer.

"As long as I am still walking I'm always going to want to try out for the team."
