    Short Read

Point guard Yago Santos is named Most Valuable Player of the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 after leading Brazil to the gold medal.

MANAGUA (Nicaragua) – Yago Santos capped a dream run through the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup by leading Brazil’s 55-47 victory over Argentina in the Final on Sunday at Polideportivo Alexis Arguello in Managua.

The 26-year-old produced 14 points and 5 assists in the gold medal game, guiding his country to a revenge win over their South American rivals after the team's loss in the 2022 edition.

Overall, Santos averaged 17.8 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.3 rebounds as the starting point guard of a Brazilian squad that finished with a 5-1 record.

The speedy guard shot 48.7 percent from beyond the arc, adding three long-range strikes in a final where points were hard to come by all night. Santos now runs the offense for Aleksandar Petrovic after taking over for the legendary Marcelinho Huertas.

Santos was instrumental in the playoff stage, scoring 25 points against Dominican Republic in the quarter-finals and another 25 in the dramatic comeback win against the United States in the semi-finals.

The Crvena Zvedza guard only trailed Norchad Omier (Nicaragua) and Ismael Romero (Puerto Rico) in efficiency, finishing No. 3 with a 20.0 rating per game.
