FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 co-hosts Israel hand coaching reins to Drucker
TEL AVIV (Israel) - Sharon Drucker has been tasked with coaching 2023 co-hosts Israel in what will be their first FIBA Women's EuroBasket appearance in more than a decade.
TEL AVIV (Israel) - Sharon Drucker has been tasked with coaching 2023 co-hosts Israel in what will be their first FIBA Women's EuroBasket appearance in more than a decade.
Israel's last appearance in the competition was during 2011 in Poland, so it's going to be a challenging task for the play-caller to oversee a return to the top table after the nation missed out on five consecutive editions.
While the 54-year-old tactician does not bring any previous experience within the women's game, he is a well-established name around Europe in the men's game,, with more than 20 years of coaching expertise to call upon.

Drucker started his career holding the playboard with Maccabi Ra'anana and coached the team in the Suproleague during the 2000-01 season. Then three years later, he won acclaim for taking Hapoel Jerusalem to a famous ULEB Cup title.
Since then, he has coached in Belgium, Lithuania, Russia, Greece,Italy and Bulgaria as well as working at most of the Israeli top-flight clubs. He also led the Israel U20 national team to a promotion back to Division A.
Israel will co-host the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 with Slovenia. The remainder of the field will join both nations via the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 Qualifiers which will take place in November 2021, November 2022 and February 2023.
