LJUBLJANA (Slovenia) - Greek playcaller Georgios Dikaioulakos has been installed at the helm of FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 co-hosts Slovenia.
The 52-year-old, currently also head coach for EuroLeague Women side Beretta Famila Schio, replaces Damir Grgic, who held the role for seven years and led Slovenia to their first-ever FIBA Women's EuroBasket in 2017, as well as leading them to the 2019 and 2021 editions.
Dikaioulakos offers vast experience at the top level not only through his extensive club coaching career which has seen him on the sidelines with the likes of Fenerbahce and Nadezhda, but also from the international stage as a former coach with both Latvia and Greece,

"It is a great honor for every coach to receive such a national team invitation and especially when it comes to the national team of Slovenia, a country with such an excellent basketball culture, which continues to develop in all segments," stated Dikaioulakos.
"I am very happy to have become part of this national team and to be writing a common history with the players and collaborators. Personally, one of my goals will be to continue the very well done work of Damir Grgic."
Slovenia are co-hosting the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023 with Israel, who also recently made a coaching change. Both hosting nations are qualified for the Final Round of the event automatically.
Dikaioulakos will take charge of the team already for the February window of the Qualifiers, which will feature games against Turkey and Albania, with tests against the other Group D rivals Poland waiting further down the road.
