TAIPEI (FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2017) – India have landed in Taipei for the 39th edition of the William Jones Cup as they get ready to use the tournament as vital preparation for their promotion bid at the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2017.

The warm-up event will serve as excellent competitive exposure for the team and is likely to be priceless for newly installed head coach Zoran Visic. He will be able to undertake a thorough assessment of the players he’s hoping can top Division B in Bengaluru later this month.

The Taipei mission will see a 17-strong squad will share court-time in an intense and action-packed few days , with match-ups against New Zealand, Japan, Korea, China and also a China ‘B’ team.

As usual, veteran performer Anitha Paul Durai will lead the way for India along with JP Skaria, as they take part in the long-running competition which has been running since 1977. The tournament was named in honor of Renato William Jones, who was one of the founders of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).

One team represents each country, and that team could be the national team, a professional club, or a college team. The tournament is played in a single round-robin format, and the final points tally will determine the placing of the teams.

India are working hard to be in the best possible shape for the start of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2017 on 23 July against Sri Lanka - they will also play Uzbekistan during the first phase.
