Women's AfroBasket 2019 hosts Senegal back to work for first time since World Cup

DAKAR (Senegal) - With the exception of Aicha Sidibe, Senegal head coach Sarr preselected all players who featured at last year's FIBA Women's World Cup for a training camp for the Women's AfroBasket 2019.

DAKAR (Senegal) - With the exception of Aicha Sidibe, Senegal head coach Cheikh Sarr preselected all players who featured at last year's FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup for a training camp for the Women's AfroBasket 2019.

In addition to them, Sarr called up a number of newcomers - including a number of USA collegiate players - for a session that will determine the last twelve who will defend Senegal colours when they host the African Championship (August 9-18).

Ndeye Sene Mame Marie Sy Oumoul Khairy Sarr Ndeye Amy Syll

It's the first time the West Africans come together since the 2018 World Championship where they shocked international basketball observers by knocking down Latvia 70-69 to advance from the Group Phase for the first time in the history of the competition.

Ever since Senegal were confirmed as hosts of the Women's AfroBasket 2019, Sarr has reiterated their need of building a competitive team and bring their A game to win the continental title again.

Therefore it's not a surprise that the runners-up of the 2017 African Championship - who count twelve African titles dating back to 1974 - start their preparations early.
