    Guinea name veterans and newcomers for training camp

    CONAKRY (FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017) - Guinea head coach Ousmane Sylla has no issues with players' ages and he made sure to show it through the preliminary squad for FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 sent to FIBA Africa. 

    While Sylla has kept five of their nine players from FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2015, he also named 43-year-old point guard Aminata Sylla and 16-year-old Sonaba Aly Konate.

    Nevertheless, Konate is joined by three other players born in or after 1997.

    Guinea will enter this year's African Championship looking to improve from their Ninth-Place accomplished two years ago in Cameroon.

    In Yaounde, they beat Algeria, South Africa and Uganda to claim a 3-4 record.

    However, in Mali, they will need to succeed in Group B, which includes reigning champions Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique.

    The FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 will run from August 18-27 in Mali, and the two finalists will represent Africa at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 in Spain.
