    DR Congo open AfroBasket Women 2017 training camp with 20 players

    KINSHASA (FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017) - The Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday opened their FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 with 20 players in the capital Kinshasa.

    While Pauline Akonga and Mireile Muganza are yet to join the team, head coach Agnes Mbudi is currently working with a mostly home-based group of players.

    Last month, the Congolese beat the Central African Republic 117-109 on aggregate in the FIBA Africa Zone 4 qualifier to return to the 12-team African Championship for the first time since 2011.

    They have been drawn in Group B along with reigning champions Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, Guinea and Mozambique. 

    This year's African Championship will take place in Mali from August 18-27, and the two finalist nations will represent Africa at FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 in Spain.
