Great Britain bounce back, improve to 1-1
Holly Winterburn came up with a performance for the ages to help Great Britain outlast Lebanon 77-72.
Winterburn finished with 14 points, 11 assists and 9 rebounds and, in the process, Great Britain bolstered their chances to fight for a spot in the Semi-Finals.
Great Britain trailed by 7 points early in the second quarter, but when Samantha Ashby and Hannah Robb combined two straight three-pointers, the British embarked on a scoring spree.
And when things looked done and dusted for Great Britain - after a comfortable 18-point lead - Lebanon emerged from the ashes, cutting the cut the gap to just two points (74-72) with five seconds left.
Eventually, Winterburn hit a shot from the charity and Maya Price's layup with a second remaining sealed the victory for Great Britain, who take on hosts Rwanda on Thursday in the last game of Group D.
she will come with some triple-doubles in her career - Anna Montañana
Samantha Ashby who finished a rebound shy of a double-double (15 points and 9 rebounds), shed light on Lebanon's comeback.
Ashby said: "We got a bit too comfortable. We started fouling a bit too much and they got some free-throws and some momentum and brought it back, but I think we did a really job to stay with it and not throw it away."
Great Britain head coach Anna Montañana, who was unaware of Winterburn's potential triple-double, insisted that the London Lions forward "is only 23-years-old and she will come with some triple-doubles in her career. She is a player that is capable of scoring, dishing assists and rebounding."
Murekatete does it again for Rwanda
Bella Murekatete recorded her second straight double-double, helping Rwanda to 58-38 win over Argentina.
The former Washington State University standout finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds in what was her second appearance with the Rwandan senior team at a major competition.
Destiny Phioxy won the hearts of local fans with her scoring prowess, finishing with 10 points and 8 assists, former WNBA Keisha Hampton added 15 points each to help Rwanda win - for the first time - two straight games at a major competition.
