Winners of the 2022 FIBA Photo Contest revealed

The winners of the 2022 edition of the FIBA Photo Contest have been selected.

MIES (Switzerland) - The winners of the 2022 edition of the FIBA Photo Contest have been selected.

With this year's theme, Local Basketball Pride, the FIBA Foundation wanted photographers and basketball lovers to reveal their hometown courts and players, showing unique aspects of their countries that represent the diversity of Basketball. As 2022 is also the FIBA's 90th anniversary, we saw the perfect opportunity to celebrate the pride of being part of a diverse family, the stories of the origin of basketball in all countries and the successes achieved.

The 2022 FIBA Photo contest winner is Chloe Rothman with her shot titled
"Because of Basketball, We are Together"

The photo was taken in Nyamirama Sector, Kayonza District in Rwanda’s Eastern Province at Shooting Touch Rwanda’s Gender-Based Violence Awareness Basketball Tournament in February 2022. Local basketball pride was on full display at the event, as boys, girls, and women showed up to participate in competitive basketball games, learn about the important issue of gender-based violence, and access free health screenings, alongside nearly a thousand community members in attendance.

The photo captures the whole village coming together to enjoy the beautiful game of basketball and challenge the existing gender inequities that negatively impact their community

Second place goes to  Suwardi from Indonesia with his photo entitled "Playing with Friends"

This shot was taken in North Kalimantan, Indonesia, and shows small children in a village playing basketball together. Even with no proper equipment, without a good court, basketball shoes, a hoop or even basketballs,  they are still happy playing basketball and hoping that someday they will become professional basketball players.

On the last step of the podium, we find Arturo de Vera Jr.  from the Philippines for his photograph "Everyone's Court"

The photo which was taken at Sitio Maugat, where the Dumagat tribe resides, shows men fighting for a rebound under a handmade hoop. Even though this tribe doesn't have a proper basketball court and lives far away from the nearest one, they still enjoy playing the game by the river. Uneven flooring and worn-down rim will not stop their love for the game.

98 different countries from all 5 regions of the world have participated in this year's edition which is the highest number recorded.

The top 100 photos selected by our jury will be published in a photo book.
