The guard sparkles for the unbeaten Opals.

ISTANBUL (Türkiye) - Sami Whitcomb has been crowned the TISSOT MVP at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournament in Istanbul for her standout play with Australia.

The 37 year-old put in some superb displays as Australia emerged from what was widely regarded as the toughest group of all, with a perfect five wins from five games.

Using her renowned composure and skills at both ends of the floor, Whitcomb's know-how was instrumental in Australia getting the job done during crunch time in a number of their games.

She led her team in points scored, minutes played, and steals. Her averages are also very impressive: 13.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.2 steals, and an efficiency rating of 14.4.

She made all five of her three-point attempts to resist Canada’s push to reach Berlin and won the first senior national team MVP trophy of her career.
