MUNICH (Germany) - It will be a very busy summer in European basketball with FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2025 and FIBA EuroBasket 2025 taking place.

24 teams will compete at the men's event and 16 countries in women's competition will shoot for the stars, but which nations will be represented at both events?

    Belgium

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: 4th place (1947) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: Champions (2023)

Both Belgium teams are returning to the big stage in a consecutive manner, but it's clear where the nations' hopes lie - women are the defending champs after climbing on the throne at the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2023. They also showed quality with only one loss during the Qualifiers, whereas the men will look to improve on the 14th place at the last outing. Can they match the women's success or even reach Semi-Finals for the first time in 78 years?

    Czechia

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: 7th place (2015) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: Champions (2005)

It's a 17th appearance for the women and the seventh for the men's team. It was an impressive run to the Quarter-Finals at the 2023 event and the co-hosts will look to go even further this time around.

The men on the other hand had some trouble with a 2-4 record in the Qualifiers, but this could be the last chance for the generation led by Tomas Satoransky and Jan Vesely to do something big - bigger than 2015 when they finished in seventh place and surely much better than their 16th place disappointment from 2022.

    France

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: Champions (2013) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: Champions (2001, 2009)

Can France do it all and bring home double gold? With the women climbing to the podium with a third place finish in 2023 and then men being current EuroBasket and Olympics runners-up, it should be a task for both teams to push for top spot. The Qualifiers were not a problem for either - both teams did it without a single loss as they went 6-0 in both events.

    Germany

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: Champions (1993) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: 3rd place (1997)

Germany will look upon the men's team to bring another decoration home as the current world champs and winners of the bronze at the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 will once again look to make it far. But it will also be a special summer for the women - co-hosts of the event want to improve on the 2023 7th place as they're looking for their second Women's EuroBasket medal ever, after 1997.

    Great Britain

    Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: 13th place (2009, 2011, 2013) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: 4th place (2019)

The British women's team is coming to the big stage for the 8th time and is surely looking to replicate the 2019 Semi-Finals success. The Qualifiers went fairly safely with a comfortable 4-2 record. Meanwhile, the men can only improve on the dead-last 24th place finish in 2022 and the Qualifiers with a surprising 73-72 win over Greece showed that the Brits can do better. Could OG Anunoby make it to the EuroBasket to offer a helping hand?

    Greece

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: Champions (1987, 2005) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: 4th place (2017)

Giannis Antetokounmpo will carry the hopes of bringing home the third men's FIBA EuroBasket title - and first since 2005. Last time out, Greece's men fell in the Quarter Finals, but that stage would be improvement for women though, as they finished 11th two years ago and have never made it onto the podium - maybe that changes in Piraeus this summer?

    Italy

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: Champions (1983, 1999) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: Champions (1938)

Glory days of the Italian basketball are somewhat behind them with the last title at either event coming 26 years ago. But could it make its return this summer? Both the women and men should take another step forward to make it happen as the men finished 8th last time and the women coming in 9th. The Azzurri have momentum with them from the Qualifiers, while they are also co-hosts of the women's event in Bologna.

    Lithuania

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: Champions (1937, 1939, 2003) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: Champions (1997)

Three-time FIBA EuroBasket champs Lithuania have the imperative of improving upon a major disappointment - 16th place finish at the last event. Domantas Sabonis and co should make it so after a near-perfect 5-1 record in the Qualifiers, whereas the women are returning to the big stage after 10 years - they finished 8th in 2015, never making it back since and have the likes of Juste Jocyte leading the new generation.

    Montenegro

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: 13th place (2017, 2022) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: 6th place (2011)

The women's Montenegro team made it to FIBA Women's EuroBasket for the eighth time in a row, but have never topped their debut success of finishing 6th in 2006. Could this be the year for them? A 4-2 record and winning Group H in the Qualifiers says something about that, but the men also have something to prove.

They finished with 3-3 in a Qualifiers group alongside Sweden and world champs Germany, securing only their fifth appearance since gaining independence in 2005. It's their third showing in a row and it should be the time to improve on 13th place finish from the last two events.

    Portugal

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: 9th place (2007) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: N/A

We welcome Portugal who made it to this list for the first time in history thanks to the women's team securing their first-ever FIBA Women's EuroBasket appearance. The Portuguese women were the fairytale story of the Qualifiers with a 5-1 record including a memorable win over Serbia.

The men ensured of their return to the major tournament after a 14-year drought, finishing 21st in 2011. They made it so by finishing just above Ukraine in the Qualifiers and it should be a historic summer for Portuguese basketball with the women on debut and men looking to beat their best finish - 9th place in 2007.

    Serbia

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: Runners-up (2009, 2017) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: Champions (2015, 2021)

Serbia will be among the favorites for both events. While the men have not made it to the top since becoming independent, they finished runners-up at the last FIBA Basketball World Cup and Paris Olympics 2024. Meanwhile, the women are two-time champions in the last decade and only came up short of the Semi Finals last time around, so will surely look for another medal this summer.

    Slovenia

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: Champions (2017) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: 10th place (2019, 2021)

It's clear that Slovenian basketball tradition is much stronger in men's competitions with Luka Doncic and Goran Dragic being crowned champs in 2017. It remains the greatest success for this country as Doncic should once again suit up with ambitions of improving on last time's 6th place. The women's team have stars of their own and will look to improve upon their disappointing campaign as co-hosts in 2023.

    Spain

    Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: Champions (2009, 2011, 2015, 2022) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: Champions (1993, 2013, 2017, 2019)

With the men being reigning FIBA EuroBasket champs and both teams having an impressive eight golds between them, Spain once again enter the summer as the ultimate force in European basketball. The women will surely have their sights set on a fifth title after their heartbreaking loss in the 2023 Final, whereas Sergio Scariolo's charges look to repeat. Could it become nine, maybe even a round 10 in number of EuroBasket titles for Spain?

    Sweden

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: 11th place (1995) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: 6th place (2019)

Sweden's women's team may have finished 8th at the last event, but an impressive, perfect performance in the Qualifiers gives them plenty of confidence heading into the summer. Meanwhile, the men's team secured their first FIBA EuroBasket appearance in 12 years, and there's plenty of feelgood factor around Swedish basketball right now - could it be an even bigger year?

    Türkiye

Best FIBA EuroBasket finish: Runners-up (2001) Best FIBA Women's EuroBasket finish: Runners-up (2011)

With the men's team winning the silver in 2001 and the women repeating that success 10 years later, it hasn't been a fruitful period for Turkish basketball of late. Türkiye team finished 10th at FIBA EuroBasket 2022 and had a split 3-3 record in the Qualifiers, whereas the women disappointed with 14th place at the last event. However, they should do much better this time after recording a perfect 6-0 Qualifiers path.
