Kuwait Club bid for 3-0; Al Sadd out to build own streak

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - Kuwait Club will look to keep their slate unblemished against Al Nasr Riyadh as the WASL-Gulf competitions continue this week.

Odds appear to be in favor of the Group B leaders in their bid to win their third in as many games, for they will be battling the team from Saudi Arabia at home at the Shaikh Saad Alabdullah Sport Hall Complex on Tuesday night.

It isn't lost on them, however, that nothing will come easy against a side raring to enter the win column after falling short in their first two matches.

Both of the Kuwaiti squad's wins thus far were down-the-wire finishes -- first a 99-93 overtime victory over Al Sadd on opening week, and then a 91-88 escape against Al Manama on the road just before 2022 concluded.

And they could be in for another long night against Al Nasr, who lost to both Al Manama and Al Sadd by just an average of 2 points.

Hogging headlines globally following a major development over at their football side, the cagers would definitely want to be in the news as well and that's by scoring a win against their foes in the latter's territory.

Out to build their own winning streak as well are Al Sadd when they host Al Manama on Monday at the Al-Gharafa Sports Club Multi Purpose Hall in Doha.

After that loss to Kuwait Club, the Qatari team bounced back with a 78-77 win over Al Nasr in Riyadh thanks to Waverly Austin's clutch free throws.

YOUNG WARDS TO WATCH

Both are only under 25 yet Mustafa Matwali and Musab Kadi have been proving their worth for Kuwait Club and Al Nasr, respectively.

A 2.03 M (6'8") forward, the 24-year-old Matwali is averaging 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds as he played a key role behind Kuwait Club's 2-0 start.

His best game to date was a 12-point, 9-rebound effort against Al Sadd, where he joined hands with Jacob Pullen for crucial buckets in OT.

Kadi, 23, on the other hand is currently the third-best scorer of Al Nasr with 12.5 markers and is among the Gulf's top 10 rebounders with 7.5.

The 1.96 M (6'5") forward is coming off a double-double performance against Al Sadd, where he registered 12 markers and 11 boards.
