BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office-Asia continued its efforts to develop mentors and aspirants after successfully organizing a Level 1 coaching clinic in India.
A total of 15 participants attended the course held last March 15-21 in Dimapur, Nagaland, made possible in cooperation with the Basketball Federation of India.
The week-long program started with classroom sessions, and was then followed by on-court work to help the attendees apply the lessons they received.
One of the participants in Marshal Pashel felt grateful that a coaching clinic was held in their region, something that the coaches have long been dreaming of.
"We are thankful to have been gifted this opportunity, especially in a region like the Northeast India. Never did we dream of this coming to our region," said Pashel.
"At this juncture, basketball is rapidly growing globally, and our region needs qualified young coaches to keep the zeal alive and help out in conducting organized basketball better," added Pashel. "We are sure that those who attended this will keep working hard."
Another participant in Reena Rai was as thankful for the entire course as it not only gave them additional knowledge, but polished their coaching skills as well.
"Not only did it teach us about coaching, but it also gave us the opportunity to fix and improve habits. We were exposed to how a high-level coach works and thinks," Rai said. "This course has provided us with so much knowledge and awareness as to how and what a coach is."
These coaching courses are part of the Regional Office’s efforts to improve the National Federations, including the bench tacticians, who are an integral part of basketball games.
