COLLEGE PARK (FIBA Americas Championship) - Venezuela's outstanding guard Greivis Vasquez can now play at the FIBA Americas Championship fully focused on the medals after deciding not to turn professional until next year.

The exciting playmaker had made himself an early entry candidate for the NBA Draft but has withdrawn his name and will now return to Maryland for his senior season.

"I believe we can really be a great team this upcoming season, and I am looking forward to working hard this summer with my teammates to make that happen," Vasquez said in a statement released by Maryland.

The top four sides at the FIBA Americas Championship that is being staged in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from August 26 to September 6 will qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

The United States booked their spot in Turkey by winning last year's gold medal at the Beijing Games. They will not send a team to Puerto Rico.
