    CARACAS (2009 FIBA Americas Championship) – Guard Greivis Vasquez and forward Gregory Echenique will join the Venezuelan National Team on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively as the team prepares for the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship to be played from August 26 to September 6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

    Vásquez finished his third year in Maryland where he averaged 17.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5 assists in 35 games.

    Meanwhile Echenique also played in the NCAA for Rutgers as he averaged 8.4 points and 8.4 boards.

    Both players are key in the future of the Venezuelan national team as they hope to finish in the top four in order to qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

    Already training are: Heissler Guillent, Carlos Cedeño, Miguel Marriaga, Luis Bethelmy, Juan Herrera, José Vargas, Oscar Torres, Héctor "Pepito" Romero, Axiers Sucre, Eduardo "Pichi" Torres, Alejandro "Tapipa" Barrios, Rafael Pérez and Richard Lugo. The head coach is veteran Nestor Salazar.
