MARACAIBO (Liga Profesional) - The Venezuelan Liga Profesional semi-final between Gaiteros and Guaiqueries was postponed on Saturday when supporters threatened the match officials.
The game, the sixth of a best-of-seven series, was minutes away from commencing when referees David Papo, Daniel Delgado and Julio Alvarez became the
subject of vicious abuse by a sector of fans in the stadium in Maracaibo
A league statement said: "Referees David Papo, Roberto Oliveros and Daniel Delgado decided to leave the Pedro Elias Belisario Aponte arena alluding to the absence of security."
The Venezuelan National Basketball League are expected to announce a ruling on the matter in the near future.
Guaiqueries lead the series 3-2.
The other semi-final between Cocodrilos from Caracas and reigning champions Trotamundos is tied at 3-3.
