BRNO (Czechia) - Mexico star Jimena Velazquez lit it up for her team against Germany at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 as she grabbed eight steals to equal the all-time game-high record in the competition.
While the playmaker was not able to prevent her team going down 61-42 in the contest, she put on a show with her defensive work. Velazquez also contributed a team-high 21 points and 6 assists for good measure.
Just missing out on what has proven to be be an elusive ninth steal since the tournament's inception back in 2010, her tally of eight sees her join the six other players who have also accomplished the feat.
