TIANJIN (FIBA Asia Championship) - Uzbekistan overcame some initial hiccups in defence to beat Sri Lanka 90-47 in the 13-16 classification round on Monday.

Uzbekistan, who failed to qualify for the 2007 edition of the FIBA Asia Championship, will now play off against the winners of the India-Indonesia game for the 12th place. In 2005, Uzbekistan had finished 11th.

Sri Lanka, returning to the Championship after 14 years, will play off against the losers of the India-Indonesia game in order to avoid the wooden spoon.

Sri Lanka managed to remain close in the first ten minutes in the all-Middle Asia clash.

But Uzbekistan, pulled away in the second quarter and with a 32-12 scoring advantage virtually sealed the issue.

Hurmatjon Muraliev led the scoring for the Uzbeks with a game-high 27 points.

    Aleksandar Kozlov had 22 points.

For Sri Lanka, Sidath Senanayake was the highest scorer with nine points.
