AUSTIN (NBA) - Former second overall draft pick Jay Williams has signed with NBA Development League team the Austin Toros as he continues his attempted comeback from a serious motorcycle accident.

Williams, taken second by the Chicago Bulls in the 2002 draft, was considered an outstanding prospect after earning the 2002 Naismith and Wooden Awards while leading Duke to the 2001 NCAA national championship.

But his NBA career looked to be over when he severed a nerve in his leg, fractured his pelvis and tore three of the four main ligaments in his left knee in a motorcycle accident in 2003.

Williams, who averaged 9.5 points and 4.7 assists for the Bulls in his rookie season, played in five pre-season games for the New Jersey Nets this summer before being waived.

He is due to start practising with his new team on Saturday. Austin (0-6) play their next game against the Dakota Wizards on December 14.
