Featuring 19 players from the 2009-10 USA Basketball Development National Team, the 2010 USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team’s training camp opens Friday, June 18, at the University of Texas at San Antonio and will continue there through June 24. The USA training camp will be utilized to select the 12-member 2010 USA U17 World Championship Team and the four players who will represent the U.S. in the 3-on-3 basketball competition at the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

The 2010 USA Developmental National Team training camp will get underway on Friday, June 18, 5-7 p.m. (all times are CDT) at the University of Texas at San Antonio Convocatio Center. The team will then train twice a day, 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m., June 19 through June 24.

Members of the USA Basketball Developmental National Team expected to attend the June 18-24 training include: Justin Anderson (Montrose Christian School, Md. / Montross, Va.); Kyle Anderson (St. Anthony’s H.S. / Fairview, N.J.); Brandon Ashley ((Bishop O’Dowd H.S./ Oakland, Calif.); Brad Beal (Chaminade College Prep H.S. / St. Louis, Mo.); K.C. Caudill (Brea Olinda H.S. / Brea, Calif.); Angelo Chol (Herbert Hoover H.S. / San Diego, Calif.); Quinn Cook (DeMatha H.S. / Bowie, Md.); André Drummond (St. Thomas More School / Middletown, Conn.); Sterling Gibbs (Seton Hall Prep / Scotch Plains, N.J.); Michael Gilchrist (St. Patrick H.S. / Somerdale, N.J.); James McAdoo (Norfolk Christian H.S. / Norfolk, Va.); Johnny O’Bryant (Eastside H.S. / Cleveland, Miss.); Tony Parker (Miller Grove H.S. / Lithonia, Ga.); Norvel Pelle (Price H.S. / Long Beach, Calif.); Chasson Randle (Rock Island H.S. / Rock Island, Ill.); L.J. Rose (Second Baptist School / Houston, Texas); Marquis Teague (Pike H.S. / Indianapolis, Ind.); Adonis Thomas (Melrose H.S. / Cordova, Tenn.); and Anthony Wroten, Jr. (Garfield H.S. / Seattle, Wash.). 2009-10 USA Developmental National Team members Perry Ellis (Wichita Heights H.S. / Wichita, Kan.), Brandan Kearney (Southeastern H.S. / Detroit, Mich.) and Kevin Ware (Rockdale County H.S. / Conyers, Ga.) will not participate in the training.

Player selections for the USA U17 and USA Youth Olympic Games teams will be made by the USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team Committee. Chaired by USA Basketball Men’s National Teams Director Sean Ford (non-voting chair), the committee features five voting members: Ron Crawford, head of the Arkansas Wings AAU program and Boo Williams, head of the Boo Williams Summer League (Va.) were appointed by the AAU; Eric Flannery, head coach at St. Edwards High School (Ohio) and John Olive, head coach at Torrey Pines High School (Calif.) were appointed by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS); while 1999 USA Pan American Games Team member Kermit Holmes serves as the athlete representative.

2010 FIBA U17 World Championship
The 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men is being held July 2-11 in Hamburg, Germany. Featuring 12 national teams that qualified either as the host country or through their FIBA zone tournaments, teams participating in addition to the United States are Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Egypt, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Serbia, South Korea and Spain. Players eligible for this competition must have been born on or after Jan. 1, 1993.

Don Showalter , head coach of the 2009-10 USA Developmental National Team and Mid-Prairie High School (Iowa), led the USA to gold at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship last June and will lead the 2010 USA U17 World Championship Team. Assisting him on the USA sideline is Herman Harried, head coach at Lake Clifton High School (Md.), and Kevin Sutton, head coach at Montverde Academy (Fla.).

Eleven of the 12 players who were named to the 2009 USA U16 National Team that journeyed last June to Mendoza, Argentina, for the 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, will attend the training camp, including: Justin Anderson, Beal, Cook, Drummond, Gibbs, McAdoo, O’Bryant, Parker, Randle, Rose and Thomas.

Led by Showalter and staff, the USA U16 Team captured the gold medal, finished a perfect 5-0 and earned the U.S. its qualifying berth into the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship.

The ’09 USA squad scored an average of 113.0 points a game and won its five games by an average of 33.8 points per game. Three U.S. players ranked No. 1 in the eight-team field for individual marks. Cook ranked No. 1 in assists with 5.0 apg., Gibbs ranked No. 1 with a 7.0 assist-to-turnover ratio and Beal led the tournament in 3-point field goals made with 18. Beal averaged a USA-high 19.0 ppg. and ranked No. 3 overall in scoring, while O’Bryant grabbed a team-high 9.8 rpg. to list No. 4 in rebounding. McAdoo tallied 16.8 ppg. to rank No. 9 in scoring and grabbed 8.6 rpg. to rank No. 5 in rebounding.

The USA dominated the tournament statistics, leading the eight nations in 12 of 19 statistical categories, including scoring offense (113.0 ppg.), scoring margin (+33.8 ppg.), field goal percentage (.498), defensive field goal percentage (.371), offensive rebounds (24.6 rpg.), rebounding margin (+20.0 rpg.), assists (16.6 apg.), blocked shots (8.2 bpg.) and assist-to-turnover ratio (0.89).

2010 Youth Olympic Games
The inaugural Youth Olympic Games take place August 14-26 in Singapore. The basketball competition features a 3-on-3 men's and women’s tournament. The men’s competition includes 20 national teams, organized by the International Olympic Committee and FIBA. Teams will be comprised of four players each and athletes eligible for this competition must have been born between Jan. 1, 1993 and Dec. 31, 1994. Nations expected to field teams in addition to the U.S. include: Argentina, Central African Republic, Croatia, Egypt, Greece, India, Iran, Israel, Lithuania, New Zealand, Panama, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Serbia, Spain, South Africa, Turkey and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Eric Flannery, head coach at St. Edward High School in Cleveland, Ohio, is serving as head coach of the 2010 USA Basketball Men's Youth Olympic Games Team.
