COLORADO SPRINGS (2011 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - The 35 players invited by USA Basketball to try out for the the national team that will compete at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women arrived in Colorado Springs on Sunday and got right to work.
The group of players - which includes 24 medalists - opened trials at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado with an evening session on Sunday and will train twice a day from Monday to Wednesday when the finalists will be announced.
Among the 35 players battling for the 12 roster spots are eight from last summer's gold medal winning team at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women.
That result secured the USA's berth for this summer's tournament to be played in Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas, Chile between 21 and 31 July.
Also among the invitees are Ariel Massengale (pictured), Elizabeth Williams and Breanna Stewart who led the USA to gold at last year's inaugural FIBA U17 World Championship for Women in France.
Last summer's U18 coaching staff of Jennifer Rizzotti (University of Hartford), Sue Semrau (Florida State University) and Joi Williams (University of Central Florida) will take charge of the USA U19 team this summer.
The USA have won the last three FIBA U19 World Championship for Women.
They have been drawn in Group B and will take on Argentina, Japan and Russia in the Preliminary Round.
