ATLANTA (Olympics) – Dwight Howard has confirmed emphatically that he wants to play for the United States at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo said after the country’s gold-medal triumph over Spain at the Beijing Games that several players had already come forward “unsolicited” to state their interest in playing for the country again.

“I’ve committed to this team until I can’t walk no more,” Howard said after the Americans’ big win.

On a visit to his high school in Atlanta on Thursday, he repeated his goal.

"I want to be a part of the team," he said.

"I think since we won the Olympics, it's only fair that the team that won it gets a chance to come back and go at it again.

“We have to keep our title."

The USA had a terrific summer but it would have been spoiled entirely if they’d failed to win the title.

Howard was possibly the most excited of all the American players in the mixed zone.

“I’m going to wear this (gold medal) for a week,” he said, “maybe two weeks, maybe the whole year. Actually, I’m not taking it off.

“I’m just gonna keep wearing it, until we have to play a game next season. In fact, I might keep it on under my (Orlando Magic) jersey.

“I want to have it with me every day to know what it feels like to be a champion.”
