USA - Strong US team confirmed for U-19 World Champs in Auckland
The roster for the US team in the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship for Men has been confirmed with the strong side set to arrive in Auckland Sunday 28 June. US team member Seth Curry is already creating interest in New Zealand and his home nation. Curry comes from a basketball family. His brother, Stephen was a member of the 2007 US U19 world championship team and is an early pick for the NBA draft while father, Dell played most of his 16 NBA seasons with the Charlotte Hornets. The United States were beaten finalist to Serbia in the last world championship two years ago. The last time they won the tournament was in 1991 with success also in 1979 and 1983.

The tournament starts Thursday 2 July with 16 nations taking part in what is the biggest basketball tournament in the world this year.
New Zealand faces Argentina on day one at the North Shore Events Centre followed by another stronghold of the game, Croatia and then Asian champions, Kazakhstan. Well over 20 NBA scouts have so far been confirmed to attend the tournament while Sky TV is broadcasting 23 games live.
The first team to arrive was Egypt who are now in training with the JTB’s (Junior Tall Blacks) and Lithuania in Wellington. Over the weekend Argentina, Croatia and Syria arrive with the remaining nations in the next few days.
