WASHINGTON (FIBA World Championship) - Some of USA Basketball's biggest names were on hand on Sunday to celebrate President Barack Obama's birthday with a unique pick-up game.

Obama, 49, last Wednesday got to pick his team from a cast that included Olympic gold medalists LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Paul, as well as Chauncey Billups and Derrick Rose, who are hoping to be on the final 12-man USA roster for the FIBA World Championship.

Also involved were Grant Hill, Shane Battier, Derek Fisher, Magic Johnson, Maya Moore, Alonzo Mourning, Bill Russell, Etan Thomas, and David West.

Kobe Bryant also attended but did not play as he recovers from off-season surgery.

The game, which was closed to the media, took place at Fort McNair in Washington DC as wounded troops watched on.

Asked why the game was closed to the media, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama "just wanted to play".
