USA - Shaquille flexes his long arm of the law
MIAMI (Off the court) - Shaquille O’Neal hasn’t been able to work much this season as the Miami Heat’s enforcer following knee surgery. But he’s proving to be quite the enforcer off the court. MIAMI (Off The Court) - Shaquille O’Neal hasn’t been able to work much this season as the Miami Heat’s enforcer following knee surgery.
But he’s proving to be quite the enforcer off the court.
On Saturday night, O’Neal, who was sworn in as a reserve officer in 2005, brought a hit-and-run driver to justice.
Shaq had additional incentive to enforce the law because it was his Cadillac Escalade that suffered damage in the accident.
The Miami Herald newspaper spoke to the 20-year-old passenger in the hit-and-run vehicle, Junior Rondin, who gave his account of Officer Shaq.
“He (the driver) was going to stop, but then we saw the Escalade chasing us," Rondin said.
“We got scared and kept driving, you know?”
Shaq, and his bodyguard, were in the sport utility vehicle that was tailing them.
When Rondin and his 18-year-old driver friend eventually pulled over at a gas station, they were then stunned to see the 7ft 1in Shaq get out of the SUV.
“I couldn't believe that,” Rondon said. “Of all the people. I mean, damn.”
And it was definitely not the right time to ask for his autograph.
“He told us to shut up,” Rondon said. “He said, `I don't want to talk to you right now.'”
According to Rondon, Shaq summoned a nearby police officer and the driver was ticketed for several violations, including leaving the scene of an accident.
