SEATTLE (NBA) - The Seattle SuperSonics have announced the signing of first-round draft picks Kevin Durant and Jeff Green.
The Sonics made Team USA prospect Durant the second overall pick in last Thursday's draft, and acquired the rights to fifth overall pick Green in a trade that sent Ray Allen to the Boston Celtics.
Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
Durant, 18, enters the NBA after just one season at the University of Texas, where he averaged 25.8 points and became the first freshman in NCAA history to
collect the Adolph Rupp Trophy, the Naismith Award and the Wooden Award.
The Sonics are hoping Durant can have an instant impact at the forward position vacated by Rashard Lewis, who is reportedly heading to the Orlando Magic as a free agent.
Green, 20, played three years at Georgetown University, averaging 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. As a junior, he helped lead the Hoyas to their first
Final Four appearance since 1985.
Green ranks 17th in scoring, 16th in rebounding and 12th in assists on Georgetown's all-time lists.
Both players are on the Sonics' summer league roster and are scheduled to make their debuts against the Dallas Mavericks.
