MIAMI (NBA Europe Live 2010) - It’s much easier to play when you have nothing to lose.
That’s the case for CSKA Moscow but not for their NBA Europe Live 2010 opponents on Tuesday night, the Miami Heat.
After the biggest summer in the team’s history, with Miami adding free agents LeBron James and Chris Bosh to a line-up that already had Dwyane Wade, Heat fans are hoping for another NBA title.
A defeat to a club from Europe, even a pre-season game against Russian juggernauts CSKA, is not something the supporters of the NBA club or the Heat players themselves can stomach.
“Being from Europe, I don't want to lose to them or else I'll hear it from back home,” said Miami’s Lithuanian center Zydrunas Ilgauskas to the Miami Herald.
“If we lose [they'll talk trash].''
One Miami player that has already tasted defeat to a Europe team is Bosh.
That happened when he played for Toronto, with Maccabi Tel Aviv beating the Raptors in Canada.
“We don't want that feeling here,” Bosh said.
“Just to be honest, nobody wants to lose to a team from Europe - no offense to any of the European teams - but especially at home.
“You got to win the game.”
The Los Angeles Lakers fell to Regal Barcelona 92-88 several days in the Palau St Jordi.
CSKA Moscow’s players are excited, as is the new coach of the Russian giants, Dusko Vujosevic.
“That will be great experience for us because if you want to become a champion, you have to learn to play against a champion," Vujosevic said.
CSKA will be hoping to not only win the Russian title this season but also the Euroleague.
