BOSTON (2010 FIBA World Championship) - Mike Krzyzewski guided the United States to the top of the podium at the Olympics last summer in Beijing and is now ready to lead the team in its quest for a gold medal at the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
The Boston Globe has claimed “two sources close to the situation” have confirmed that Coach K has committed to leading the team next year in Turkey and at the London 2012 Olympics.
Krzyzewski took the helm before the 2006 FIBA World Championship and guided the Americans to a bronze medal, with the only setback coming in a 101-95 defeat to Greece in the Semi-Finals.
The USA responded with back-to-back title-winning summers at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship and at last year's Beijing Games.
The announcement that Krzyzewski is to remain in charge is expected at a press conference before the start of the USA Basketball mini-camp that runs from July 22-25 in Las Vegas. At the camp, young NBA stars will audition for places in the national team.
While the United States have dominated men's basketball tournaments at Olympics, they have clinched just three gold medals at FIBA World Championships.
The former Soviet Union, and the former Yugoslavia won three titles each.
The last gold won by the United States at a FIBA World Championship was in Canada in 1994.
Since then, they have captured bronze medals in 1998 (Greece) and 2006 (Japan).
