HAVERFORD (Pan American Games) - USA Basketball has named a 14-man squad of college players to compete in the Pan American Games.
Michigan State's Drew Neitzel headlines a group that also includes Georgetown's Roy Hibbert, Virginia Commonwealth's Eric Maynor and North Carolina's Wayne Ellington.
Villanova coach Jay Wright will lead the group to Brazil and he will have one of his own on board with Wildcats guard Scottie Reynolds also named to the roster.
The squad was announced after 30 players took part in trials at Haverford College over the last few days.
"This was definitely the most difficult choice we've ever had to make, but I just love this group," said Wright. "I think we have great options. We've got shooters, we've got penetrators, we've got size, we've got post people - a guy like Hibbert could be a game changer.
"It's just a really diverse group that has great personality and I think the committee did a great job of putting together a really strong team. Our staff is excited about working with this team and getting them to come together and think like a team."
The USA campaign tips off against Uruguay on July 25. The squad is: Josh Carter (Texas A&M), Joey Dorsey (Memphis), Wayne Ellington (North Carolina), Shan Foster (Vanderbilt), James Gist (Maryland), Roy Hibbert (Georgetown), Maarty Leunen (Oregon), Derrick Low (Washington Statei), Eric Maynor (Virginia Commonwealth), Drew Neitzel (Michigan State), Scottie Reynolds (Villanova), Bryce Taylor (Oregon), Kyle Weaver (Washington State), DJ White (Indiana).
