COLORADO SPRINGS (FIBA World Championship) - USA Basketball, in association with Las Vegas Events (LVE) and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), announced today a three-year agreement that designates Las Vegas as the official host of training camp for the USA Basketball Men's Senior National Team.

In 2006, the USA team's training camp will begin on Wednesday, July 19, culminating with an exhibition game against the Puerto Rico National Team at the Thomas & Mack Center (18,500 capacity) on Thursday, Aug. 3. Following the camp and exhibition game, the USA squad will depart for Asia to continue its preparations for the 2006 FIBA World Championship For Men.

The agreement also calls for the USA Senior National Team to train and play one exhibition game in Las Vegas in 2007 and 2008.

"Our pre-World Championship training plan is coming together nicely.  We feel excited and fortunate to be able to have the USA Senior National Team conduct its domestic training for the next three summers in Las Vegas," said Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball's Senior National Team program managing director. "We appreciate the efforts Las Vegas Events and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority have made to make this happen.

"Our Aug. 3 game against Puerto Rico will be a great international event for basketball fans in Las Vegas and the surrounding areas," added Colangelo.

"We are extremely excited about our partnership with USA Basketball," said Pat Christenson, president of Las Vegas Events. "In addition to hosting the USA Men's Senior National Team training camp, Las Vegas will host one exhibition game each summer through 2008, allowing basketball fans to see the best players in the world all in Las Vegas. This is certainly a prestigious event, and along with the 2007 NBA All Star Game, Vegas Summer League and Las Vegas Prep Basketball Showcase, Las Vegas has become a top destination for basketball."

The USA team will open its training in Las Vegas on July 19 and train through July 25 with the 23 players who were selected for the USA Basketball Men's Senior National Team program.

Following a five-day break, those players selected to represent the USA in the World Championship will reconvene in Las Vegas on July 31 for the start of the second phase of the team's domestic training.  The USA team, which will be comprised of 12 active players and three alternates, resumes practice July 31-Aug. 3, and the Americans will meet Puerto Rico in an exhibition game at the Thomas & Mack Center on Aug. 3 at 8 p.m. (PDT).
