LOS ANGELES (NBA) - The Memphis Grizzlies on Friday traded Spain star Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The most valuable player of the 2006 FIBA World Championship after leading Spain to the title, Gasol is averaging 18.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game this season.

There won't be a one-two punch by the Gasol brothers in LA, however.

The Lakers, who selected Gasol's younger brother Marc in last year's draft, dealt the Akasvayu Girona center's draft rights to the Grizzlies in the deal, along with first round picks in 2008 and 1010.

Memphis also got Kwame Brown and guards Javaris Crittenton and Aaron Mckie in the trade.

“We’re extremely pleased to be able to make this trade,” said LA general manager Mitch Kupchak.

“Pau is a proven player of all-star caliber in this league who can score and rebound and he’s still a young player.

"We feel this move strengthens our team in the short term as well as the long term.”
