DALLAS (NBA) - The Dallas Mavericks finally acquired Team USA guard Jason Kidd in a trade with the New Jersey Nets on Tuesday.

And the 35-year-old Kidd admitted he can't wait to run up and down the floor with superstar Dirk Nowitzki of Germany.

"He's the MVP," Kidd said. "It shows his ability to play at a high level and when you have guys like that on a team, it brings everybody up to another level. Being around him, I can only hope that rubs off on me and he can elevate my game to another level."

The Mavs had to send playmaker Devin Harris, along with Senegal center DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Moe Ager, Keith Van Horn, a pair of draft picks and cash to obtain Kidd, Malik Allen and Antoine Wright from the Nets.

Van Horn hadn't played since the 2006 NBA Finals, so the Mavs had to re-sign him to make the deal work financially.

Kidd turned professional after his sophomore year with the California Golden Bears, and played with the Mavericks in his first three NBA seasons.

He then moved to Phoenix for five campaigns before joining the Nets in 2001.

Kidd enjoyed his best days in New Jersey, twice reaching the NBA Finals but losing each time.

Now he believes he's in position to make another run at the NBA title.

"That's all I want - to win a championship," he said. "It's not guaranteed, but you want to play for it. When you take the floor with the Mavericks, you're on that path to win a championship."
