NEW YORK (NBA) - Numerous youngsters who play professional basketball outside the United States have made themselves available for the NBA draft that will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 25.
Danilo Gallinari of Italy was the sixth pick overall in last year’s draft and this summer, Spain point guard Ricky Rubio is expected to be among the top five players selected and could go as high as number two overall.
The 18-year-old is currently getting ready for the ACB play-offs with DKV Joventut in Spain's ACB and should appear with his country at the EuroBasket in Poland later this year.
Serbia's Milan Macvan and Greece's Nikos Pappas, who led the world select team to victory at the Nike Challenge in Portland last month, have declared.
Maccabi Tel Aviv's Omri Casspi, Montenegro's Vladimir Dasic, Ukraine's Sergey Gladyr, Spain's Victor Claver and Cholet Frenchman Rodrigue Beaubois are other emerging stars who have put their names forward.
American-born Nick Calathes played for Greece last summer at the U20 European Championship and he has declared despite having two more years of eligibility with the Florida Gators.
Calathes is not hiring an agent and can withdraw by June 15.
