COLORADO SPRINGS (USA) - The USA will be full of champions in FIBA ball when they take aim at a fifth consecutive Women's World Cup title in Germany in September.
A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, players who have claimed MVPs at both the Women's World Cup and Olympic Games, are in the team.
Two standouts set to make their World Cup bows, Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, did win titles with USA youth teams.
They were in the American side that finished first at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico earlier this year.
Aliyah Boston, Napheesa Collier, Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Rhyne Howard, Kelsey Plum, Angel Reese and Jackie Young are the other superstars on the USA team.
All 12 players have USA Basketball experience, combining for 14 Olympic and nine World Cup titles.
Copper, Gray, Plum, Stewart and Wilson were on the USA team that won the 2022 FIBA World Cup in Sydney, Australia.
That five, along with Collier and Young, were in the gold medal-winning team at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
USA legend Sue Bird, the national team managing director, put the team together and it was approved by the USA Basketball Board of Directors.
"I'm so excited to announce the 2026 USA Basketball women's national team," Bird said in a USA Basketball announcement.
"This is an incredibly talented group that has earned the opportunity to compete in Berlin."
The 2008 Olympic gold medal winning guard of USA, Kara Lawson, is coaching the team.
"It's great to have a team and to have a roster,” said Lawson, the head coach at Duke University.
“It's been a long process to whittle it down to 12 players, and I think that speaks to just the talent we have in our country across the board.
"These 12 have earned it through their play and their consistency. I couldn't be more excited about working with each of them, and I've had good experience with each of them."
USA tip off their World Cup campaign against China on September 4 and then square off against Italy on September 6 and Czechia on September 7.
Since falling to Russia at the 2006 FIBA Women's Basketball Cup in Brazil, the USA have not lost a game in the competition, or at the Olympics.
The USA did have a couple of scares in recent times, edging Belgium at the buzzer at the 2024 FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Antwerp, 81-79, and beating France in the 2024 Olympic Gold Medal Game, 67-66.
