SAN DIEGO (NBA) – The Los Angeles Lakers lost Kobe Bryant to injury on Tuesday when the Team USA superstar hyperextended his right knee in an exhibition game win over the Charlotte Bobcats in San Diego.
Bryant did return to the bench for the third quarter but wearing street clothes.
He is to be re-examined by doctors on Wednesday.
Another Team USA gold medal winner at the Olympics, Deron Williams of Utah, suffered a sprained ankle at the weekend and is expected to be out of action for two weeks.
D’Antoni: No to D-League for Gallinari
New York Knicks boss Mike D’Antoni has no intention of sending Danilo Gallinari to the NBDL this season.
Back problems have forced Gallinari to miss the Knicks’ pre-season games.
“Danilo will remain with us,” he said. “This situation only emerged due to an answer I gave to a reporter. I simply said the Reno option could be a solution, that’s all. But it seems a remote option.”
Warriors down Lietuvos Rytas
Lithuania giants Lietuvos Rytas suffered a 126-106 friendly defeat at the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday.
One of the greats in Lithuania basketball history, Sarunas Marciulionis, was drafted by Golden State in 1987 and joined the team in 1989 before spending four years wity the Warriors.
He had played for Statyba Vilnius from 1981-89.
