DENVER (NBA) - Denver Nuggets coach George Karl revealed this week that he is in another battle against cancer.

Team USA’s coach at the 2002 FIBA World Championship in Indianapolis, Karl had prostate surgery five years ago and had been cancer-free before discovering a lump on his neck several weeks ago.

The 58-year-old was told by doctors that the cancer is, in his own words, “very treatable and curable”.

An emotional Karl spoke on Tuesday about the cancer, and his determination to carry on as coach of the Nuggets.

He said at a press conference on Tuesday: "My desire is to do whatever I can to stay with my team throughout the treatment that I have to go through.

"The treatment began today and in general, it's about a six-week treatment of radiation therapy and chemotherapy.”

Denver’s Brazil international center Nene fought testicular cancer during the 2007-08 campaign.

He says the players will pull together to help their coach.

"Everybody has (leadership) responsibility now,” Nene said.

“Everybody needs to give a little more effort. If we do our best, we're going to make Coach feel better."
