NOVI SAD (FIBA U19 World Championship) - Led by Michael Beasley, the United States swept aside China at the FIBA U19 World Championship in a 103-77 win.
The Americans rolled to victory with Beasley in top form as he scored 21 points and had seven rebounds.
The number-one ranked team simply overran their opponents, much as they had done in the 118-56 thumping of Mali on Thursday.
In Yong Xu, China had the game’s top scorer with 22 points, although he was unable to halt the all-round strength of the Americans.
The first quarter was quite close and China, who had had succumbed to hosts Serbia in their first game 78-61, trailed by nine, but in the second quarter the Americans put their foot on the gas.
They were 55-30 up at half-time and had the game in the bag, but they showed no mercy in the third quarter to lead 81-59.
Stephen Curry poured in 13 points and eight rebounds, while Jonny Flynn (14 points), Patrick Beverley (13 points, four rebounds and six assists) and David Lightly (10 points) all contributed heavily.
Yong aside, Bo Zhang’s 14 points and 13 points from Wei Su were the only significant scores from the Chinese.
The USA, who top Group B, now take on Serbia on Saturday, while China meet Mali.
