CLEVELAND (NBA) - LeBron James is on the verge of an early play-off exit for the second straight year with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Team USA star - who was recently voted the NBA’s MVP for the second year in row - made just three of his 14 shot attempts from the floor and finished with 15 points as the Boston Celtics cruised to a 120-88 road win in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semi-finals on Tuesday.

The Celtics now have a 3-2 lead in the series.

Brazil’s Anderson Varejao had eight rebounds to go with his five points for the Cavs, who must now win Game 6 in Boston to force a Game 7 back in Cleveland.

Ray Allen paced the Celtics with a game-high 25 points, while Paul Pierce broke out of a series-long slump to contribute 21 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Garnett finished with 18 points.

Rajon Rondo, coming off an impressive triple-double in Game 4 on Sunday, scored all 16 of his points in the second half and handed out seven assists.
