RODEZ (FIBA U17 World Championship for Women) - Canada were hoping for another big scoring effort by Nirra Fields, but the USA foiled that plan and rolled to a 114-57 win to stay undefeated in the tournament.

Fields, who had 36 points in Canada's previous game against Japan, was held to 17 and, without any of her team-mates able to step up, the USA had a clear path to a comfortable victory as they became the second team to score 100 or more points in the tournament.

The Canadians stayed close for the first quarter, but Barbara Nelson's girls took control soon thereafter and showed they could score from anywhere on the court.

They were hitting their shots from beyond the arc and overpowering their opponents in the paint to take a 53-34 lead at halftime.

Not much changed in the second half as the USA stuck to their efficient tactics. They led from start to finish and hit 47 percent of their attempts from three-point territory.

Kaleena Lewis had 21 points and Jewell Loyd added 19 points.

    Quotes

Barbara Nelson (USA head coach): It was a real battle in the first quarter. We knew when to score, when the time was right. We played hard for 40 minutes so I’m happy that the girls stayed focus throughout the game. They found their shots. We played well in defense and all the girls took  their responsibilities.

Jacqueline Lavallee (Canada head coach): It was a tough game. We have things to improve on. If you make one mistake against the USA, you are punished right away.
