BRNO (Czechia) - Holders USA made a statement on the first day of the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 as they put on a defensive masterclass to set a new game-high record in the competition for steals.
They beat their own high tide mark of 30 at the last edition by snapping up 33 in a one-sided 117-24 triumph against debutantes Cote d'Ivoire.
In what was also the biggest ever winning margin recorded in the competition at 93 points, Ivanna Wilson Manyacka and Nation Williams led the way with 6 steals.
Their teammate Tatianna Griffin also impressed with 5 steals each as the rampant USA made it a first outing to forget for their opponents, who set a joint-high record for turnovers with 46.
