SEATTLE (Olympics) - Swin Cash will not be among the three players added to the US Olympic team this week, according to a story in the Seattle Times.
Cash, an Olympian four years ago in Athens, confirmed to The Times that she had received a phone call informing her that she would not be in the team.
"I was numb," Cash told newspaper. “It was short and direct."
What’s worse, she said, is that she will not even be an alternate.
"To not be an alternate is the biggest surprise for me, and why it hurts so much," Cash said.
"That means my name wasn't even part of the discussion. I made the sacrifices, but there are no hard feelings whatsoever. I want them to win gold."
Cash has battled her way back from a herniated disc and looked to have a good chance of making the team after travelling with the Americans to China in April for the 2008 Beijing Basketball Test Event.
She could travel to Beijing for the Olympics but as a broadcaster with NBC.
According to The Times, Tamika Catchings, Lindsay Whalen and Delisha Milton-Jones will join the nine other players already named by USA Basketball.
Lisa Leslie, Katie Smith, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Sylvia Fowles, Candace Parker, Seimone Augustus, Tina Thompson and Cappie Pondexter were confirmed members of the American team on May 31.
