MIAMI (NBA) - Alonzo Mourning finally fulfilled his dream of winning an NBA title last season, and is eager for more.
Mourning, among the franchise leaders in virtually every category for the Miami Heat, has re-signed with the team. Terms were not disclosed.
"I'm very excited about re-signing with the Heat," Mourning said.
"I love this organisation, the fans and the whole South Florida community and I'm happy to have the opportunity to join my teammates and defend our championship this season."
A seven-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year who has made it back from a kidney transplant, Mourning is the Heat's all-time leader in games played (491), blocked shots (1,405), free throws made (2,328) and free throws attempted (3,512).
He also ranks second in 11 categories, including points (8,649) and rebounds (4,364).
The 36-year-old is stil an intimidating defensive force as the backup to Shaquille O'Neal.
The 6ft 10in Mourning, who is entering his 14th season, averaged 7.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 blocks last season in helping the Heat to their first championship in franchise history.
In the post-season, Mourning averaged 3.8 points and 2.9 rebounds. In the clinching win over Dallas in Game Six of the Finals, he finished with eight points, six rebounds and five blocks in 14 minutes.
"It's obviously great to have 'Zo back," Heat coach Pat Riley said. "We know how important he is to the city, this franchise and in helping us try to repeat as NBA champions. It's a good day for the Miami Heat."
